Storyboard Project Progress
Week 1
This week, I made a blog and a youtube channel to compile all my media theories and project in one place. We also did a recap on camera shots, angles and movement that we learned last year during AS level.
Week 2
This week, I made a blog and a youtube channel to compile all my media theories and project in one place. We also did a recap on camera shots, angles and movement that we learned last year during AS level.
This week, we were introduced to the Advert Storyboard project by our teacher. He briefly explained what we were doing for the project, the timeline, the deadline and the rubric. We made a video about different camera shots and angles so it would help us later on when making the storyboard. He also told us to start thinking and get a rough idea for what brand/product we are going to make the advert for.
Week 3
This week we learned about new theories and terminologies. We made a video about different camera movements. We were also surveyed by the teacher about what product we were going to choose for the project and I chose Nintendo Switch console as the product I was going to advertise.
We were told to choose an advert and analyze them by its media language, representation, audience and industry. I chose Mercedes-Benz's advertisement as my first advert to analyze.

Week 4
We were taught about different target audiences, broad and niche audiences, different generations and how to appeal to these target audiences as effective as possible by using different technical codes which will derive meanings. We were also asked to answer 8 different questions about our product/brand's identity to have a better understanding about the product we are going to make the advert for and its target audiences. The 8 brand identity questions were:
1. Who is your best customer?
2. How does your product or service benefit your customers?
3. What are your strengths?
4. Who is your competition?
5. How is your business different from competitors?
6. What is your brand voice?
7. What is your brand story?
8. How do you want customers to describe their experience?
We all did a first attempt of storyboarding with guidance from Mr. Nick. We were also told to make another storyboard of an existing advertisement and to think and have a good idea about what events will occur in our adverts and how our advert will look like.

Week 5
This week I pitched a rough idea of our advertisement for the storyboard project for the first time to the teacher, Mr Nick. I explained how I planned to make a Nintendo Switch advertisement targeted for adults about a stressed out business man relieving his stress by playing the Nintendo Switch with his colleagues. Mr. Nick said that it was lacking something and advised to add more to the idea and give more interesting aspects to it so it would be more appealing to the audiences.
I gave it a lot of thought and came up with more ideas throughout the lesson. I also decided to change the product of my advertisement to the game Pokemon Legends: Arceus to focus more on advertising a specific game instead of generally advertising many different games on the console. I also added an aspect that different Pokemons will be brought into real life in my advert using CGI.
I made a full plan of the whole storyline of my advertisement with detailed explanation of why I chose each of the characters in the advert and what meaning it brings to the advert.
I also made my second advert analysis and for this, I chose an advertisement of the game Pokemon Lets Go Pikachu/Eevee.

Week 6
This week, I pitched my Storyboard Plan 1.0 and got a few feedbacks and suggestions from Mr. Nick. He said that there was too much going on and that I had to make some scenes more simple. He also suggested to add a slogan instead of just stating "Available now" at the end of the advert.
I changed and revised the storyline of my advertisement, added a slogan ("Explore history, make history) and made a second, revised version of my storyboard plan. Then, I started making the first draft of the actual advert storyboard.
I also finished my third advert analysis. This time, I analyzed an advertisement of the Digimon Card Game.
Week 7
I finished the first draft of my storyboard and pitched it to my teacher, Mr Nick. He said it was good, but he has some feedbacks and suggestions. First, he suggested that I should add some reaction shots in between shot 11 and 12.
Second, he said that the phone in shot 23A can be misleading because it could make audiences to think that it is a mobile game. Lastly, he advised to make the advert a little shorter in time.
I made some changes on my advert analysis 1 & 2 and made another revised version of the Storyboard Plan. I also started drawing my Final Storyboard.

Week 8
I continued drawing my final storyboard. During class, Mr Nick explained and gave us guidance of how to structure the essay properly and the contents that should be in it. We also made our first essay draft. I then revised and added more analysis and details to all my advert analysis.

Week 9
I finished my final storyboard and I showed it to my teacher, Mr Nick, to ask for his opinion and what I should do to improve. He said that I can improve on it more by drawing the lighting and the shadows of each shots and that I should play with the camera focus. Secondly, he suggested to change the camera movement of Shot 1 to a push-in and tilt up instead of a pan, to make audiences feel like they are entering the world of the advert. So I started making additions and changes to my storyboard as he suggested.
I also finished my final essay and showed it to Mr. Nick and this is what he advised:
- "As I stated earlier", remove this paragraph, it adds nothing.
- Mention the theorist/theory when discussing them (Uses and gratification, Barthes's 5 codes)
- What are your Binary Opposites specifically? ?vs?, and which is dominant in the end? what is the message?
- How has blogger helped you?
- Add that your camera angle/movement video helped you to understand how your ad will look. What software did you use for that?
So, I improved my essay as he suggested.
