Advert Analysis No. 2 - Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee

New Discovery: Rare Footage of Meltan in the Wild!

This is an advertisement for the game Pokemon Let's Go, Pikachu/Eevee. This advertisement focuses on advertising and introducing a new Pokemon called Meltan that players can find and catch in the game.

Media Language
This advert was made to advertise the game and introduce a new Pokemon called Meltan, but instead of directly explaining and showing the Pokemon, they instead told a story while also giving facts and hints about the new Pokemon. This storytelling advert technique is used to make the advert more interesting and appealing to their audiences.

a shot of a group Meltans cuddling could be seen and then there was a fade to white to a shot of a shadow of a large Pokemon. The fade to white represents a glow and this connotes that the shadow of the large Pokemon is somehow related to the Meltans, something happened to them. This leaves a mystery to the audience so they will want to find out more about them

This advert was made possible by CGI to bring the Pokemons to the real world and interact with the main character, this is used so audiences will feel a deeper connection to the Pokemons and not just see them as a game character. They are also using written text on a notebook to narrate instead of a using a narrator, to make it seem more personal because the main character was only writing for herself, possibly in a diary. The advert also uses POV shots which makes the audience watching feel the same experience that the main character is experiencing/to make the audience feel like they are the main character.

Representation
This advert represents a young adult. In this advert, the main character, a young adult, is seen writing research and noting things down in her notebook about the new pokemons that she discovered. This has a positive representation that suggests that young adults are still adventurous, curious and are slowly discovering the world, and although they are grown ups and living alone, their curious child-like mind is still inside them.

Audience
This advert targets young adults. This advert uses CGI to bring meltan to the real world to make the advert more interesting and different from other companies, which may bring interest and attract young adult audiences.

In the advert, the main character was seen writing a research of Meltan in their book/diary as they slowly discover things/facts about the Meltans. This shows that the main character was also new to Meltan/has just discovered them and didn't know anything about them at the beginning of the advertisement. This means that the main character was also discovering things about the new pokemon with the audiences at the same time which can make the audience feel the same experience as how the main character described it in her notebook/diary. This may also be relatable for Pokemon fans because some people play the games while researching and coming up with theories.

The fact that they are introducing and revealing Meltan for the first time in this advert may attract audiences/pokemon fans that watch these advert for surveillance as a way to catch up and know more about the franchise to be interested in the game.

Industry
This advert promotes Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee, and the Nintendo Company owns Pokemon so this game is an exclusive game which can only be played on the Nintendo Switch. The Niantic Company also had a collaboration with Nintendo and the Pokemon Company which is why Meltan can also be found in Pokemon Go and this advert also acts as a slight introduction of what people can find in Pokemon Go.
