Critical Self-Reflection (Podcast)

Me and my teammates, Kanna, Erina and Hugo, have created a podcast for this project, along with a social media account to advertise our podcast. Our podcast, Unsolved, is an unsolved true crime podcast and it is targeted towards people ages 15-19. The first episode of our podcast discusses The Black Dahlia and the second episode discusses Jack the Ripper. HOW DO YOUR PRODUCTS REPRESENT SOCIAL GROUPS OR ISSUES? Our podcast represents white people. We have chosen to represent them in both episodes of our podcast because based on our survey on students, they prefer consuming classic, white, western crime cases. Our podcast conforms to traditional thinking because we used stereotypes of white, British people. The main character of our podcast, Vienna Raymond, is a white, British woman and she spoke with a stereotypical British accent. We used this stereotype because using the stereotypical British accent can let audiences easily know that she is a British woman by just hearing her voice. P

Podcast Editing

Image
(i made this post) I edited both episodes of the podcast using Adobe Premiere Pro, a video editing program, because it has all the features that I need to edit the audio and I have a lot of experience editing with Premiere Pro which made me able to edit the podcasts quickly and comfortably. Recordings Erina and Hugo recorded the audios for the podcast and they sent me the raw recording of the podcast. I started editing by cutting out all the mistakes and stutters and making sure the timing between each sentences and words sound natural, not too fast and not too slow. I also made sure there was not too much background noise on the audio so it will sound more high-quality. BGM and SFX I searched for non-copyrighted songs on Youtube and Google for our podcast intro song and for the BGM. I decided to use Too Crazy By David Fesliyan as our podcast intro and a few of his other songs and songs by other artists as BGM. Here are the links of the songs I used for the BGM: https://hypeddit.com/3x

Podcast Social Media & Advertisements

Image
This post was originally made by teammate, Kanna. Research  In this digital age, many organizations made use of social medias to promote their products to a bigger audience. Social media allows organizations to connect and engage with potential audiences. Social medias also can help them build their brand identity. I chose to research about Instagram as it is one of the most famous social media these days. I took a look at a few podcast instagram accounts.  The first one is an Indonesian Comedy-Horror podcast, Podcast Malam Kliwon. They upload a preview of their newest episode in their instagram feeds to inform listeners that a new episode has been uploaded. They also used the instagram story and highlights feature to promote their merchandises and collaborations. Next, I scrolled through DIVE Studio's instagram account. DIVE Studios is a podcast production company creating audios related to the culture and society. They consistently upload instagram posts and stories every time a

Podcast Thumbnail Development

Image
True crime podcasts are very common and in order to make audiences attracted to our true crime podcast, we need to make the thumbnail of our podcast as interesting as possible and make sure that it stands out from other true crime podcasts. Here are a few true crime podcast thumbnails:          Most of the thumbnails has a red/black/white color palette, where the background is black and a white/red text and objects like a gloved hand, fingerprint and bloodspots is used as a contrast to make it stand out as much as possible. By using these colors and putting pictures of objects related to crime in the thumbnail, people can easily tell that it is a true crime podcast.  Unlike other crime podcasts, the thumbnail of "Someone Knows Something" is not very straight forward but the crow connotes death and the title of the podcast radiates a mystery feeling to it which makes the audience want to know more. Here are a few thumbnails for true unsolved crime videos from Buzzfeed Unsolve
