Case Study - The Voice

The Voice, founded in 1982, is a British national African-Caribbean newspaper operating in the United Kingdom. The paper is based in London and was published every Thursday until 2019 when it became monthly. It is available in a paper version by subscription and also online.

Who is the Audience
This newspaper is operating in the United Kingdom and online and is targeting Black British Adults.

How have they been targeted?
Black British adults are targeted by including more news and articles about black people, events and culture. They also do not use black stereotypes on their news. Black people are represented as the majority and white people are represented as the minority in this newspaper. When there is news about white people, it was mostly negative, such as this article (https://www.voice-online.co.uk/news/2021/10/10/strawberry-slavery/)

This newspaper subverts post-colonialism, since they do not represent themselves as the "others" and they do not represent white british people as the powerful and respected ones.
